McAllen Photographer Being Considered for Artist-Manned Mission To The Moon

McAllen, April 12, 2021 – McAllen-based photographer Michael Angelo Medina is currently one of the finalists for an artist-manned mission to the moon.

The Mission is a joint venture between Japanese entrepreneur Yusaku Maezawa and SpaceX founder Elon Musk. Yusaku is famous in the world of art for his eccentric collection featuring works from Jean-Michel Basquiat, Bruce Nauman, Alexander Calder, and many more high-value works. His latest art project, the dearMoon Project, is a private spaceflight flying a circumlunar trajectory around the Moon. This project intends to staff the SpaceX-owned Starship with Maezawa, 8 artists, and 1-2 crew members.

The dearMoon project opened an early-recruitment call on March 14th, and three rounds of elimination later, has entered the most competitive phase of its submission process: a competition where applicants must submit a 1-minute video declaring their candidacy and mission goals.

Michael Angelo Medina is one such applicant, and invites the community to show their support by visiting his website to see his submission video, read his mission statement, and browse a selection of space-themed photographs he has produced throughout the year.
