From radio theory to radio production, this program takes students from 7 to 17 years of age in the 78501 zip code through a 1- week course. With emphasis on hands on training, students learn how to run an audio board, use the proper types of microphone, to write, announce, edit, record, and play their own shows. Producing their own PSAs and commercials is also covered.
“ICYP is a program focused on keeping kids from becoming involved negatively with the juvenile justice system,” said Joe Martinex, Program Ctreato. “We want to catch the kids before they get in trouble, teach them a skill and provide them a safe place to hand out and learn.”
With a degree in Broadcast/Journalism/Advertising/Public Relations from UT PanAm and a Master’s degree in Education from Texas A&M, Joe Martinez, a state licensed teacher and administrator, along with his staff, use their teaching skills towards this passion – keeping kids actively motivated toward a fulfuling career path, rather than a life on the streets.
