“Home Movie Day is a celebration of amateur films and filmmaking held annually at many local venues worldwide. Home Movie Day events provide the opportunity for individuals and families to see and share their own home movies with an audience of their community, and to see their neighbors’ in turn. It’s a chance to discover why to care about these films and to learn how best to care for them.” –The Center for Home Movies
ENTRE members and volunteers will inspect and screen home movies brought to us by the community. We are able to process VHS and miniDV tapes along with 16mm and 8mm films. If you have media in other formats, especially Super8 and DV, you are welcome to bring them to the event to be evaluated. We will provide resources on how to care for your home movies, where to have them transferred, and provide information about how to become donors to our RGV home movie collection. Donors retain ownership of their media and exhibition/access details are discussed on a case-by-case basis. In 2021, we launched Boca Chica, Corazón Grande, a community archival project focused on collecting and documenting the history and geography of Boca Chica Beach. We are seeking photographs and home movies that feature Boca Chica Beach, so if you have any in your home, this would be a wonderful opportunity to have the evaluated and digitized for this ongoing project!Throughout the day, we will be screening the home movies brought in by the community (5 minutes max for tape media) which will coincide with Home Movie Day bingo! This event is free and open to the public.
